Walking tour of the historical core of Zadar. In two hours you will hear the most known parts of the history of Zadar from Julius Cezar to the building of the Monument To The Sun. I will show you the most interesting sites in the city and explain how the city developed from antiquity when Roman Forum was started to build all until modern times.
Five Wells Square
Come near the entrance of the Ledana club next to Five Wells (you have a photo of the meeting point in the gallery).
You will see Five wells which were built during Venetian rule over Zadar in the 16 century as a water supply for the city primarily to protect the city from Ottoman expansion. I will tell you some basic things regarding the tour schedule and some history of Zadar.
I will explain how Venetian authorities organized defenses for Zadar and explain each part of the Landgate so people can understand rest of the walking tour.
We will take a walk through the public park of Jelena Madio. You will see some plants which have origin in distant countries like China, Japan or India and I will tell you something about Russian olives.
Foundations of Old Town Zadar are built by Romans so I will show you how Iader was built as an antiquity city.
You will see even three types of walls and I will explain how they were built and at which time.
I will explain some reconstruction of the palace done by Austrian authorities by 19th century.
The place, where are now two dental medicine offices, was Captain Palace in the 15th century.
In front of Rector Palace, I will tell you the story of how St. Simeon Chest was made and how it was moved to the church of St. Stephan which is now called the Church Of St.Simon.
As we stand on ruins of Roman Forum I will tell you how it was build and show you reconstruction of Roman Forum.
I will tell you a story about the most beautiful sunset in the world and what is the symbolism of the Sea Organ and Monument To The Sun.
