Hop aboard our Turkish Gulet 'Barbarossa' for a full-day private charter at sea. During this private boat charter, we will anchor at the best places around Comino's island and parts of Gozo, including the famous Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon, Comino Caves, Halfa Rock, Dahlet Qorrot Bay, and San Blas Bay.
Mgarr Harbour, Gozo or Cirkewwa, Malta
The captain of the boat will be waiting for you at the agreed spot. Mgarr Harbour in Gozo or Cirkewwa in Malta, depending on where you will be staying.
Surrounded by steep rocky shores, Crystal Lagoon is located off the coast of Comino Island and is only accessible by boat. With unbelievably crystal clear water of intense blue color, it is perfect for swimming or spending a relaxing day at anchor. Also, a very popular dive and snorkel site as one can swim inside the caves.
We will also go into the cave below the Santa Marija Tower of Comino. In the 2002 movie adaptation of 'The Count of Monte Cristo, the Santa Marija Tower takes center stage doubling as the exterior of the French prison fortress Château d’If.
Comino’s biggest draw is the Blue Lagoon, a sheltered cove between the western end of the island and the uninhabited islet of Cominotto (Kemmunett in Malti). It’s incredibly beautiful and inviting, with a white-sand seabed and clear waters. The blue is so intense it’s as if you’ve stepped into an over-saturated postcard. The southern end of the lagoon is roped off to keep boats out; there is top-notch swimming and snorkeling here, plus you can swim over to Cominotto.
Comino’s Blue Lagoon with its dazzling blue waters and limestone backdrop features in the scene between Achilles and his sea nymph mother Thetis in the big-budget 2004 movie ‘Troy’.The fluorescent waters also appear for a diving scene in ‘Swept Away’ (2002) featuring Madonna, in her attempt to become a cinematic icon, and host a spearfishing scene in the 2003 miniseries ‘Helen of Troy’ based upon Homer’s story of the Trojan War.
Quieter than its popular neighbor Blue Lagoon, Santa Maria Bay is a small tranquil sandy beach with shallow clear waters. Here you can get off the boat for a swim or paddle from the beach. This is an ideal stop, especially for people with small children and non-swimmers.
On the north-east coast below Nadur and Qala is Daħlet Qorrot, a small inlet nestled between the cliffs. A few boat houses still line the shore serving as storage for the local fishermen’s fishing gear and colourful boats. The tranquil ambience with clear blue waters surrounded by beautiful nature makes it a popular local swimming spot. It has a tiny sandy beach, as well as rocks and a concrete platform to sunbathe on. In addition, the craggy coastline and clear waters make it a perfect site for snorkelling and diving. The bay provides a handful of benches shaded by some trees and a public restroom, but there are no deckchairs or umbrellas to rent. In summer there is also a snack bar facility.
This is a pretty red sandy beach situated on the north coast of Gozo, accessible from the village of Nadur via a narrow road. Due to being exceptionally steep the last part of the road is closed to traffic, discouraging some people to go there, thus making this beach a very peaceful and quiet place. Moreover, it lies at the end of one of the most beautiful fertile valleys of Gozo, with no buildings to ruin the view.
These natural caves used to be the hiding place for pirates, waiting for the Gozo cargo boats sailing to Valletta fully loaded with food for sale in Malta.
On the way back, we will pass by the famous Elephant Rock, also featured in the 2002 movie 'The Count of Monte Cristo. In the movie, it is used as one of the clues on the map to get to the hidden treasure.
